1.5 Inch Stone

A large pile of gray gravel or crushed stone outdoors with trees and hills in the background.

Our unwashed inch and a half stone is locally sourced, often from our Richford Pit, where it is crushed and screened down to size. This aggregate can be used for an aesthetically pleasing walkway or to fill landscape beds. More commonly it is used for utility backfill, septic fill, and especially to enhance drainage. That’s because the stone doesn’t “silt up” as easily as smaller stone, allowing for superior egress. Our 1.5 inch stone is another aggregate we keep a healthy stockpile of in our yard at G.W. Tatro due to its many practical uses. Contact us and we would be happy to further explain how or if this can be useful for your project.

Crusher Run

Large pile of dirt and gravel at a construction site with trees in the background.

This is our most popular aggregate due to its many practical uses in construction. We get this aggregate from our Richford and Eden pits, directly out of the bank, where we then put it through our Crusher, hence the name “Crusher” Run.

It has fractured pieces of stone and fine dust particles that compact well together to form a strong bond which makes for a sturdy landscape material that is not prone to shifting. Due to its stable nature it is a great material for dirt roads, driveways, backfilling or as a base layer below concrete. Visit us or check out our store on this webpage for more on how to buy a load for your home, driveway or fill needs!

3/4 Inch Stone

Large pile of gray gravel with trees and a partly cloudy sky in the background.

Crushed and screened down to size, our unwashed ¾” stone is a great multi-purpose aggregate. It makes a great backfill for areas with pipes and culverts. Also, it will help control erosion by stabilizing the ground and it allows for decent water drainage. Our customers and foremen often use it to stabilize muddy or wet areas, and it can make a top layer for a driveway. Towns will often use three-quarter inch stone for their roads, as it is especially efficient in tackling the slop during the freeze and thaw cycles of  mud season. Its durability makes it useful for a foundation too. Many customers seem to prefer ¾” stone over 1 ½“ stone because ¾” is easier to shovel by hand! We keep plenty of ¾” stone at our Jeffersonville Yard, so stop by and take a look to see if it can work for you!

Topsoil

A large pile of brown dirt on an outdoor construction site with greenery in the background.

If you are in need of topsoil, look no further! Topsoil is, of course, the topmost layer of soil with the most organic matter and nutrients, making it ideal for gardening. We screen it on site, and we also screening it at our holding area with our 2000 PowerTrack screening plant. Built with just one screening deck, the PowerTrack’s grizzly also has a special vibrating tendency that allows for a superior sorting and screening of material, allowing for only the best quality topsoil to make it to our customers.

Whether you are looking to plant vegetables, make a raised bed or rejuvenate your lawn, just stop by G.W. Tatro’s –or fill out a order form— and we will set you up with all that you need or just give us a call and we can deliver some right to you!
